Together with City Developments Limited (CDL), National Library Board (NLB) launched an unique green library – “My Tree House” – for kids. The concept of this green library evolves around cultivating our young ones about caring for the environment, with a tree house structure constructed with recyclable materials as the centerpiece.
Tuck away in a corner of the central library, the space that allows the kids to run around is generous. There are little cozy areas that allow children and their parents to make themselves comfortable and read. My 2.5yo girl was pretty excited, literally kicked her shoes off and made herself comfortable in this green library that is filled with fun elements like paper crafts, tree-like bookshelves and cute stools. The colours are soothing and inviting for the kids.
Perhaps we were there in the late evening, hence it wasn’t really crowded in the green library. The shelves were pretty empty, but on closer look, the books selection was quite comprehensive. However I suggest to have an area with the book covers facing forward, especially the toddlers’ section, as forward-facing books encourage reading. Oh, please make sure it’s easy access for the toddlers.
“The Tree House” children section is located at Basement 1 @ National Library Singapore, within the Central Library .
